2009 Sports Event of the Year

The Greater Savannah Sports Council has added a new award category to their Georgia Power Sports Awards - “Sports Event of the Year”.

This award was created to honor the most outstanding sporting event that took place in the Savannah area over the past year. The winning event must incorporate a positive message, involve the community, and generate a significant impact for local athletes and businesses.

A review panel from the Sports Awards Committee evaluated several successful events for 2009; and voted to award the Susan G. Komen Savannah Race for the Cure as the “2009 Sports Event of the Year”.

The inaugural Susan G. Komen Savannah Race for the Cure took place on April 18, 2009 and there were 3,050 participants along with 400 volunteers.
